David Werklund, CM, AOE

Chairman

Dave began his career in 1965 at Shell Canada where he recognized the need to address environmental and waste management issues in the oil and gas industry. He co-founded Concord Well Servicing in 1979 and grew it to the third largest well service company in Canada. In 1984, he founded Canadian Crude Separators (CCS). In 2012, CCS along with Hazco, Concord, Beck, HMI, Prodrill and seven others were rebranded to Tervita Corporation, a privately-held company with $5+ billion in revenues and over 4,600 personnel.

An entrepreneur at heart, Dave started Werklund Ventures Ltd. to invest in private innovative companies. He is Founder and Chairman of Payload, the CEO and Chairman of Pure Environmental LLP, and currently serves as the Chair of the Board for RS Technologies Inc., Aveda Transportation and Energy Services; and Intelligent Wellhead Systems.

Dave’s success is punctuated by numerous accolades. Among his many honours, he has been recognized as a member of the Order of Canada, member of the Alberta Order of Excellence as well as being inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame and the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame. He is also a past recipient of Canada’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Mitch Carlson

Chief Executive Officer, Founding Partner

Mitch started his career in the oil and gas industry in 1999 on workover rigs, eventually transitioning into snubbing operations in 2002. He flourished in the high-risk/high-reward environment and moved into supervising high pressure operations internationally by 2007, where he maintained an excellent track record of completing critical operations for the next decade. This is where the idea for Intelligent Wellhead Systems was born: to create a technology to reduce operator stress and increase efficiency. Carlson has always looked at the world through a different lens than most and his ambition, persistence, risk tolerance and vision have been instrumental in creating the technology and company he leads today.

Kevin Folwark

Vice Chairman

Kevin has over 25 years O&G Industry experience. He started his career with Frontier Well Services in 1989 and moved on to Precision Drilling (Live Well Service) in 1996. He started as a roughneck, moved onto snubbing supervisor, before being promoted to equipment manager, looking after a fleet of 22 snubbing units. In 2004, Kevin founded Snubbertech Ltd. The company manufactures and re-certifies world class snubbing units and hydraulic workover rigs. He sold 75% interest in Snubbertech Ltd. in 2015 and continues to work his 25% interest as Founder/COO. Kevin’s main career goal is to advance snubbing/HWO into a safe and efficient process, eventually eliminating personnel from the work floor during tripping operations. Snubbertech Ltd. currently has rigs and customers in China, Canada, USA, Ukraine, and Poland.

Brad Martin

Chief Technology Officer, Founding Partner

Brad has spent 17 years in the oil and gas industry, gaining experience with snubbing, workover and drilling units—on-land and offshore—across 11 different countries worldwide. Brad was instrumental in the research and development of one of the first PLC driven snubbing units, from initial assembly to field trials and finally into a competitive, highly utilized snubbing platform. His career path led him offshore to performing as an Offshore Installation Manager on a large lift boat based in the Gulf of Mexico. There are many skills he continues to use from past projects that bring value to inVision System projects, including his ability to systematically solve problems, provide contingency planning, develop technology safely, as well as an overall understanding of the course that must be taken to produce a highly successful product.

Thane Russell

Director

Mr. Russell has over 30 years of engineering experience in the petroleum industry, primarily in production operations, drilling and completions, and well optimization. Mr. Russell has a particular interest in the innovation and commercialization of completion tools. Mr. Russell was one of the founders of Stellarton Energy Limited, which was sold to Tom Brown Resources of Denver in 2000, with its wholly owned subsidiary, Secure Oil Tools, having been sold to Schlumberger in 1999. In 2000, Mr. Russell founded Absolute Energy Limited where he currently serves as President. Absolute Energy’s subsidiary, Absolute Completion Technologies Ltd., founded in 2002, was sold to Schlumberger in 2017. Mr. Russell also has field experience with a number of companies including Texaco, Imperial Oil and Canadian Hunter. Mr. Russell received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College and has his designation as a Professional Engineer.

Dwayne LaMontagne

Chief Financial Officer, Partner

Dwayne began his career with Ernst and Young in 1990.  He has held executive leadership roles with public and private companies including Savanna Energy Services Corp, Western Lakota Energy Services Inc., Best Pacific Resources Ltd. and Vista Energy Ltd. While at Savanna he was primarily responsible for Savanna’s start-up and expansion into Australia, growing that division from inception to a peak of $50 million EBITDA. Western Lakota Energy Services Inc. was trading at $0.65 per share when he started in 2002 which ultimately sold to Savanna for over $14 per share in 2006.
